The Q Dash Scavenger Hunt: 5 Reasons to Join in the Fun

Sarasota’s most unique downtown scavenger hunt is back! The 2nd Annual Q Dash Scavenger Hunt, hosted by the Sarasota Young Professionals Group, will take place on Saturday, March 3, 2018, from 2-5 p.m. Teams of four will compete to decode clues and find landmarks throughout downtown Sarasota and earn points by posting on social media.

Wondering if you should join in on the fun? Here are 5 reasons why you’ll regret not signing up:

Compete for a Grand Prize package…and bragging rights.

Teams earn points by decoding clues and discovering landmarks throughout the city. When teams find a correct landmark, they will post a photo on social media, which alerts our Q Dash judges to add points to their total score. The team with the most points will win a Grand Prize package of goodies from local businesses and organizations, including Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, Escape Countdown, Bookstore1, Penzey’s Spices, and more! Even if you don’t win the Grand Prize, there are still opportunities to win prizes with the Judge’s Choice for Most Creative Photo, Best Team Costume, and Best Wrong Answer.

It’s a cheap, fun way to get your team out of the office and do some real team-building.

Looking to re-energize your staff and help them connect outside the office walls? The Q Dash is a wonderful team-building experience! Learn about your staff’s areas of strength and how they work together to solve problems in a new context, all while having FUN!

Being new to Sarasota can be an advantage.

You might wonder it life-long Sarasotans will be more likely to find the landmarks, but that simply isn’t true. Q Dash Co-Chair, Andrea Knies, says “Having a diverse team really makes a big difference. Newcomers to the area will have fresh eyes, and spot things that those who grew up here easily overlook.”

Discover a side of downtown you didn’t know.

The Q Dash is all about noticing. One of the common themes we heard from our participants last year was that they noticed interesting buildings, public art, and other quirky landmarks that they hadn’t before; even after walking past them hundreds of times. In the year since our first Q Dash Scavenger Hunt, we’ve added lots of new landmarks and expanded the bonus menu—keeping even the most seasoned Sarasotans on their toes!

“See and Be Scene” at Sarasota Film Festival

sff cover

The Sarasota Film Festival (SFF) is recognized as a world-class platform for thought-provoking films from some of the best-known and emerging independent voices. Although the Sarasota Film Festival is one of nearly 850 film festivals in North America, they continually rank in the top ten percent.

In February, the Sarasota Film Festival unveiled their new campaign artwork created by Tyler Mathis, a Motion Design student at Ringling College of Art and Design. The annual celebration of film returns to Downtown Sarasota March 31st – April 9th, and the theme is a multidimensional play on words: See & Be Seen, Sea & Be Seen, and See & Be Scene. “For that reason, we are excited to share an artwork triptych, each of which captures the different iterations. Which one is your Festival?”

This year’s Festival will welcome some celebrity star power, as well. Oscar-nominated actor Stanley Tucci, Golden Globe-nominated actress Rosanna Arquette, actress Diane Lane, documentarian Rory Kennedy and actress-filmmaker Aisha Tyler are set to attend this year’s festival.

Vote Sarasota for America’s Happiest Seaside Town!

The city of Sarasota has been named one of the top 10 “America’s Happiest Seaside Towns 55045036341936194312017” by Coastal Living! Now it’s our turn to rally support and vote to become the happiest seaside town in America!

Vote here (every 15 minutes) daily until midnight, Oct. 17. The winning town will be announced Jan. 11, 2017 and will be featured in the May 2017 issue of Coastal Living and the top towns will be featured in an online gallery.

Why have we been chosen?
The jubilation created from big circus fun never really left the city of Sarasota, even after the Ringling Bros. Circus moved elsewhere.

But maybe the seaside breeze, the white sand and the coastal blue green waters are more to blame. Maybe the “circus” fun never left — after all there is a large circus heritage and tradition that remains in Sarasota to this day. Or maybe the enormous catalogue of arts, dining, attractions and eco amenities have helped to contribute to the “at ease” sensation of vacationing in this Florida Gulf Coast destination!

Sarasota could be considered the definitive happy town. It’s smaller than major metropolitan cities: you can land on the tarmac of the Sarasota-Bradenton International airport and be looking out to the Gulf of Mexico on Lido Beach in a matter of minutes. It’s more cultural than any other city of its scale: with multiple professional theatres, a ballet, an orchestra, an opera and countless galleries and museums. There are more parks and acres of untouched Florida wilderness than you can imagine, not far outside the city limits. Finally, the local chefs come from all over the world and serve dishes that may be considered works of art themselves, often using ingredients from nearby local farms. What else could you ask for in a city our size?

Share your happy town photo! Get on instagram and post your photo using the hashtag #CLHappyTownSarasota and #CLHappyTown.
