Give us a brief history of your business/organization.
FCCI was founded in Sarasota, Florida in 1959 as a way to help members of the Sarasota General Contractors Association obtain affordable workers’ compensation insurance coverage. FCCI has grown over the years, largely by adhering to the founders’ guiding principles of accountability, integrity, fairness and service as the business navigated opportunities, challenges and changes. In 1996, FCCI expanded beyond workers’ compensation into others lines of commercial insurance coverage, eventually becoming a comprehensive property and casualty provider. Through organic growth and acquisitions, FCCI has expanded into the super-regional organization it is today, serving 18 states and nearly 19,000 policyholders.
What are your business/organization’s core values, goals, and overall mission?
FCCI’s core values are loyalty, integrity, vision, excellence and service. Our goals are to invest in our employees, to enhance our agency partnerships by providing excellent products and service, to maintain our financial strength and strategic growth, and to provide long-term stability and security our customers can count on. Our mission statement says, “FCCI employees are empowered to deliver commercial insurance products and exceptional customer service to meet the needs of our valued agency partners and policyholders. We keep our promises so businesses can thrive, manage risks and face the future with confidence.”
How long have you been in business in the Greater Sarasota Community?
FCCI has been in business in Sarasota, where it was originally founded, for 57 years. We have additional offices in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Indiana, Mississippi and Texas. We distribute our coverage in 18 states through a network of independent agents who share our commitment to excellence, customer service and local expertise.
In a nutshell, what does your business/organization provide its customers/clients?
FCCI Insurance Group provides commercial property and casualty insurance to meet the needs of today’s business owners. We offer a variety of coverage for agribusiness, automotive, crime, general liability, inland marine, property, commercial and contract surety, umbrella and workers’ compensation. More than that, we create partnerships and keep promises that allow businesses to grow and succeed, knowing that risks are managed and claims will be resolved fairly.

What makes your business/organization unique?
Our culture is what makes FCCI unique. We operate as one team, and our teammates are like family. FCCI is a caring, compassionate company. We give back to the local community and help each other in times of need, too. Although we work hard at FCCI, we also have fun!
What benefit(s) attracted you to The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce?
Building our visibility in the local community is a benefit of the Chamber that attracted us. Membership enhances our credibility in the Sarasota area with agents, policyholders and candidates who are interested in working with us. We are highly engaged in efforts to sustain a vibrant community and local economy. Through our support of the Chamber’s Sarasota Tomorrow initiatives, we believe we are creating the foundation for a strong future for our community. The Chamber also gives us exceptional learning opportunities through the programming provided. We are able to take advantage of resources and learn about topics that are of importance in today’s business environment.
Is your company/organization involved in any community/civic activities?
Yes. Since FCCI’s founding, we’ve been giving back to the community. As our business and geographic reach has grown, so have our efforts to support the communities where we do business by contributing to local and national charitable organizations. Locally, FCCI is pleased to sponsor All Faiths Food Bank, Children First, Step Up for Students, Suncoast Charities for Children, Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, and United Way, among other organizations and events. In addition, all FCCI teammates are given four hours of company-paid time each year to volunteer for any cause they would like to support. Last year, FCCI teammates volunteered 2,264 hours under this program, as well as many additional hours of their own time!
Where do you see your organization in five years?
In five years, we would like FCCI to still be recognized as a best employer in Florida and our other locations, and we will continue to invest in our teammates’ career development so that we can attract and retain talented professionals. We plan to be operating in at least 22 states and we will continue to partner with agents who share our values and commitment to excellent policyholder and claim service.
We will maintain our mutual insurance company structure and prudent financial management to support our ability to keep our promises to policyholders and claimants, as well as make business decisions that will support controlled and careful growth.
What are three things your organization can’t live without?
FCCI frequently invites teammates to surprise programs and celebrations, such as concerts, picnics and cookouts. Throughout the month of March, special events take place to recognize and reward our teammates, and profit through performance bonuses are also distributed then. The month of October is filled with fun events and activities to help raise money for United Way.
